Setting the tone

Kent Stamey was featured in the CrossFit Journal in May 2011. In this video, Kent describes how he found CrossFit and started his own affiliate. He also talks about how a trainer can "set the tone" to help clients make progress and achieve their goals.

An excerpt from the video:
“I think it’s the trainer, the owner, that makes it, that sets the tone. And you have to be able to really be a people person and be able to listen and hear what their needs are and their wants are and try to make them happen.”
CrossFit HQ provides links for a preview of the video in either WMV format or MOV format. The full video can be found on the CrossFit Journal web site; a journal subscription is required to view the full video.

The 80-year-old Guinea Pig

At 80 years young, G-Ma became a CrossFit celebrity! The CrossFit Journal featured the story of G-ma and Kent, as he guides her along the path to fitness at CrossFit Hickory.

Here’s an excerpt:

“I wasn’t sleeping. I couldn’t get up out of my chair. I had trouble getting the door open and out of the car. I was starting to feel my age,” said Leola Schell.
After a month and a half [of CrossFit], Schell was doing four sets of 20 squats, three sets of ten pushups, hoisting herself up on a rope for 3 seconds, and performing other feats of strength and agility that had been long beyond her. She was also getting a full night of sound sleep and “popping up and down out of bed” like a jack-in-the-box. By three months, she was starting to do the regular WOD.

Check out the article over at the CrossFit Journal. In order to read the full article online, you have to have a subscription to the Journal (you DO have a subscription to the Journal, don’t you?).
